The Cross Timbers Hiking Trail is a popular 15-mile hiking and biking trail with overnight camping sites located near Lake Texoma in Gordonville, Texas. It has a large river and offers a number of activities and is best hiked from March until December. It begins at the Juniper Point recreation area and goes along the southern shoreline of Lake Texoma through Cedar Bayou, Rock Creek, and Paw Paw Creek Resorts.

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge offers 11,000 acres on the Big Mineral Arm of Lake Texoma. The refuge is open dawn to dusk year-round. The visitor center is open daily from 7:30 to 4 p.m. weekdays, 9-noon Sat.; 1-4 Sundays. The mission of the refuge is to protect migrating waterfowl and other birds. Other activities are hiking, picnicking, and fishing. Boating and hunting are allowed at certain times of the year.

Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge lies at the upper Washita Arm of Lake Texoma. It has 16,464 acres which include the 4,500 acre Cumberland pool and the 3,000 acres Tishomingo Wildlife Management Unit. The refuge offers a variety of habitats for wildlife such as 30 mammal species, 24 bird species, 65 reptile, and amphibian species, 62 fish species, and 67 butterfly species.
