Places to catch Striper fish for each season at Lake Texoma.

Striper swims into shallow water on points, flats, and windblown banks and can be caught with live bait or jigs. Then in April, mature striper swims up the Red River and Washita to the Dam to spawn and stay there before returning to the main part f the lake around the second week of May. Catching striper fish really heats up the last week of Aril when the water reaches 70 degrees. Live bait is the best but the topwater bite is great from late April to late May. In mid-May, most of the fish are stacked up on ledges and humps and live bait is overall the best option but by the end of June live bait still works but slab spoons work better on the fast-moving fish.

Summer season starts in June on Lake Texoma and the Striper has finished spawning. June, July and August are the most popular fishing months for the summer. Some fish can still be caught but it really slows down in August making them a little harder to catch. It slows down even further starting in September as the summer action is over and it can be hit or miss from one day to another until the lake turns over in October and striper fishing picks back up.

Striper fishing is the best in the fall and fish can be caught anyway you prefer to catch them. You can use live bait or fishing lures. They can be caught on ledges, humps, shallow flats, or the windblown banks and points.  The topwater fishing will continue till mid-November. As the water cools just follow the birds. The stripers are schooling under the birds. In addition, thousands of seagulls migrate to the lake for the season.

Striper fish go on a feeding frenzy between Thanksgiving and well into January especially on cold damp days. Look for big schools of fish chasing the shad under the swarming birds during this time. In addition, there are thousands of seagulls on the lake locating fish for you. Striper fishing slows down when the temperature gets near and below 50 degrees. They can still be caught but some days are better than others.
